The San Francisco Giants look for their second straight road win versus the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Give a good team an early lead and they are tough to beat which was what we saw in San Francisco's 8-4 road win over arch rival Los Angeles. The Giants erupted for six first inning runs and led 8-0 after two which turned to be plenty. Starter Ryan Vogelsong struggled a year ago and didn't look any different with all four runs given up on seven hits and a pair of walks over just four frames with two of those hits leaving the yard. The Giants posted eight hits and walked four times with Michael Morse and Vogelsong driving in a pair of runs each. Left hander Madison Bumgarner takes the ball for game number two of the series. Bumgarner did not receive a decision in a 9-8 win at Arizona in his 1st outing where he was charged with four unearned runs on six hits and two BB in four frames.

This probably won't be repeated very often in 2014 but Dodgers starter Hyun-Jin Ryu was down right awful and I'm sure he will admit that. He was tagged for all eight San Francisco runs (six earned) on eight hits and a trio of bases on balls and was in the locker room after just two innings and a whopping 69 pitches. Four relievers held the fort with seven scoreless innings but the damage had been done. The Dodgers had their share of baserunners on ten hits and two walks with Andre Ethier leaving the yard and knocking in two while Adrian Gonzalez hit his first round tripper but too little too late as the Giants pen controlled the damage. The Dodgers send lefty Paul Maholm to the bump for his first start of 2014. Maholm went 10-11 in his first season with the Los Angeles with a 4.41 ERA over 26 starts covering 153 innings.
I'm looking at the Giants sending their best guy to the mound in Bumgarner who has had success in this match up. If he throws as capable I believe SF can get some runs against Maholm and steal one...
