The Tampa Bay Rays and the Texas Rangers face off on Saturday for game two of their series at Tropicana Field.
The Tampa Bay Rays are in first place in the American League East in the early going and while it is early the Rays are known as slow starters to the season. On Friday Sean Rodriguez and Ryan Hanigan each hit had two hits including home runs and Evan Longoria and Yunel Escobar each had two hit as the Rays scored eight runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Jake Odorizzi allowed three hits and struck out four over 6.0 scoreless innings to get the win. For Saturday’s game the Rays start David Price who won in his first outing this year over the Blue Jays. Against Toronto Price allowed six hits and two runs while striking out six over 7.1 innings in a 9-2 victory. Price is probable trade bait but if the Rays are contending that ould alter that plan.
USA TODAY Sports
The Texas Rangers never got it going on Friday and were run over by the Rays in Tampa Bay. Price Fielder had two hits and drove in a run and Elvis Andrus and Alex Rios each had hits as the Rangers scored one run on six hits. Starting pitcher Joe Saunders just didn’t have his best stuff as he allowed six hits and five runs while striking out four but lasting just 3.2 innings taking the loss. For game two the Rangers start Nicholas Martinez who spent last season playing AA baseball. The Rangers pitching staff has thinned out and until they get healthy it is going to be a challenge for them.
Tampa Bay is 13-4 as a favorite, 9-3 in their last 12 home games, 6-2 against the AL West, and 5-1 in Price’s last six home starts. Texas is 5-0 in game two of a series, 11-4 on the road against a left-handed starter, and 0-5 in their last five games as an underdog. Texas is 2-6 in the last eight meetings of these two.
The total in this one is set at 7.5 but I like this one to go over.
