The Washington Nationals and the Atlanta Braves face off on Saturday in D.C. for game two of their National League East series of the last two division winners.
The Washington Nationals came home for their Opening Day on Friday but their fans left disappointed as the Nats fell to the Braves. Anthony Rendon had two hits and scored a run, Ian Desmond had two hits, and Jayson Werth, Bruce Harper, and Ryan Zimmerman all had his but the Nationals could score just once on eight hits. Starting pitcher Jordan Zimmerman pitched well allowing four hits and a run while striking out nine over 5.0 innings of work to not factor in the decision as Tyler Clippard took the loss in relief. For Saturday’s game Washington starts Stephen Strasburg who had a no decision in his first start this season in New York against the Mets. In his first outing Strasburg allowed five hits and four runs while striking out 10 over 6.0 innings of work. While it is early in the season the Nationals know the road to the NL East crown goes through Atlanta.

The Atlanta Braves were considerable underdogs on Friday in Washington but they apparently never looked at the odds and opened the series with a win. Evan Gattis hit a home run, Freddie Freeman had two hits, and Chris Johnson and Dan Uggla added hits as the Braves scored two runs on six hits. Starting pitcher David Hale allowed five hits and struck out four over 5.0 innings to not factor in the decision while Luis Avilan got the win and Craig Kimbrel earned his third save of the young season. For Saturday’s game the Braves start Julio Teheran who lost on Opening Day in Milwaukee. In his first start Teheran allowed seven hits and two runs while striking out two over six innings to take the loss. The Braves haven’t lost since their season opener.
Washington is 7-2 following a loss, 16-7 in their last 23 home games, 15-7 as a home favorite, and 4-0 in Strasburg’s last four starts. Atlanta is 4-0 in game two of a series, 6-1 on the road against a right-handed starter, 4-9 following a win, and 4-0 in Teheran’s last four starts against the NL East. Atlanta is 18-6 in the last 24 meetings with Washington.
While the Nats are strong and they have Strasburg going, not taking the Braves at this price is just too tough and this price is too good to pass on.
