The New York Mets and the Cincinnati Reds face off on Sunday at Citi Field as they close out their weekend series.
The New York Mets were swept in their first series of the year by the Nationals but now have a chance to sweep the Reds after winning the first two games. On Saturday Curtis Granderson hit a home run and drove in two runs, Ike Davis hit a walk off grand slam, and Eric Young and Daniel Murphy had hits as the Mets scored six runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Dillon Gee allowed six hits and three runs while striking out four over 7.1 innings to not factor in the decision as Carlos Torres picked up the win. For Sunday’s game the Mets start Jon Niese who makes his first start of the season. Last year Niese allowed 158 hits and struck out 105 over 143 innings of work for an 8-8 record and a 3.71 ERA.

The Cincinnati Reds are struggling this season winning just once so far including Saturday’s loss. On Saturday Brandon Phillips hit a home run driving in two, Ryan Ludwick hit a home run, and Tucker Barnhart had two hits as the Reds scored three runs on seven hits. Johnny Cueto looked strong allowing five hits and two earned runs while striking out nine over 7.0 innings to not factor in the decision as J.J. Hoover took the blown save and the loss to fall to 1-1 on the year. For Sunday’s game the Mets start Alfredo Simon who hasn’t started since 2011 when he was with Baltimore. Last season working from the bullpen for the Reds Simon allowed 68 hits and struck out 63 over 87.2 innings for a 6-4 record and a 2.87 ERA.
New York is 3-6 in their last nine games, 3-7 in their last 10 home games, and 4-1 in Niese’s last five starts against a team with a losing record. Cincinnati is 5-1 in their last six games after losing the first two games of a series, 1-10 in their last 11 games, and 16-5 in their last 21 road games against a team with a home winning percentage of less than .400.Cincinnati is 6-2 in their last eight games in New York.
The total has dropped to 7.5 but I still like the under for my free pick.
I also have a play on the winning side and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
