The Texas Rangers look to even their series with the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
Texas is penciled in as a challenger in what should be a competitive American League West. That remains to be seen but if the team is going to be a factor they will have to beat teams like Boston. That didn't happen Monday with a late boston scoring burst leading to a 5-1 defeat. Tanner Scheppers allowed two runs on nine hits in five frames to absorb the loss with Seth Rosin unable to hold the fort with three runs scored on four hits in the 8th. The Rangers managed eight hits but only received an RBI single from Mitch Moreland. Martin Perez makes his second start of 2014 when he face the dangerous offense of Boston. Perez did not receive a decision in a 3-2 win over Philadelphia with both runs plated on seven hits in 5.2 innings.

Not much seems to have changed for the Red Sox although the long season will tell us if that's a true statement. They looked like the same team from a year ago in Monday's win with decent pitching and plenty of offense leading the way. Starter John Lackey upped his record to 2-0 with only an unearned run allowed on five hits and a pair of free passes over seven innings pitched which was easily a win with the bats late scoring. The offense racked up 14 hits with Jackie Bradley swinging the big bat with three hits, two runs drioven in and a run scored. The Red Sox broke open a close came with a three run 8th although the work on the mound didn't need much help. The Red Sox hand the ball to left hander Felix Doubront who knocked off Baltimore 4-3 the first time out. Doubront gave up all three runs on six hits and a walk covering 5.1 innings of work.
The Rangers have hit left handers well thus far and Doubront has had trouble with this team albeit in limited meetings. I'm tempted to take a shot with decent plus odds here if Perez can control things on the mound...
