The St. Louis Cardinals and the Cincinnati Reds face off on Tuesday for game two of their series in at Busch Stadium.
The St. Louis Cardinals spent their first week of the 2014 season on the road but on Monday they won just their second home opener in the last eight seasons. On Monday Yadier Molina drove in three runs and Matt Adams and Peter Bourjos each had two hits as the Cardinals scored five runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Michael Wacha got out of some tough spots allowing seven hits and a run while striking out three over 6.0 innings to get the win. For Tuesday’s game St. Louis starts Lance Lynn who won his first start of the year. In his first outing of 2014 Lynn eight hits and three runs while striking out seven over 5.0 innings in Cincinnati to beat the Reds.

The Cincinnati Reds didn’t take advantage of their opportunities on Monday and in the end it is what cost them the game. Brayan Pena had three hits, Ryan Ludwick had two hits, and Billy Hamilton had a ht as the Reds scored three runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Tony Cingrani allowed three hits and three runs while striking out five over 4.0 innings to take the loss. For Tuesday’s game the Reds start Homer Bailey who took the loss in his first start of the year. In his first outing this year Bailey allowed seven hits and four runs while striking out three over 4.1 innings losing to the Cardinals in Cincinnati.
St. Louis is 40-14 in their last 54 home games, 6-2 in game two of a seirs, 0-4 following a win, and 15-7 in Lynn’s last 22 home starts. Cincinnati is 3-8 in their last 11 road games against a team with a winning record, 2-7 following a loss, 2-11 in their last 13 games, and 2-8 in Bailey’s last 10 starts as an underdog. St. Louis is 6-1 in Lynn’s last seven starts against Cincinnati.
The Cardinals got the better end of this matchup last week but I look for the Reds to turn the tables here.
