Texas Rangers vs. Houston Astros – 9/24/20 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

2020-09-24 20:05:00 EDT

The Houston Astros and the Texas Rangers meet in an AL West division matchup in MLB action from Globe Life Field on Thursday.

The Houston Astros will look to rebound after a 3-2 loss to the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday. Josh Reddick accounted for both of Houston’s RBIs in a pinch-hitting role while Aledmys Diaz went 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles while Yuli Gurriel, Carlos Correa and Jose Altuve each had a base hit as well to finish off Houston’s offense as a team in defeat. Zack Greinke took the loss, falling to 3-3 on the year after allowing all three runs on eight hits while striking out five over 4.2 innings of work. Cristian Javier will start here and is 4-2 with a 3.33 ERA and 48 strikeouts this season. This will be Javier’s second career start against Texas.

The Texas Rangers will look to bounce back after a 7-3 loss to Arizona in their last outing. Isiah Kiner-Falefa led the way in defeat, going 1 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs while Anderson Tejeda added an RBI as well to finish off the scoring for the Rangers in the loss. Leody Taveras and Sam Huff each went 2 for 4 with a double, with Huff posting a pair of two-baggers. Willie Calhoun added a base knock as well to round out the offense for Texas in the loss. Wes Benjamin allowed three runs on seven hits with 3 strikeouts over five innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Nick Goody took the loss, falling to 0-2 in relief in defeat. Lance Lynn will start here and is 6-2 with a 2.53 ERA and 84 strikeouts this season. In his career, Lynn is 5-5 with a 3.13 ERA and 87 strikeouts against Houston.

Head-to-head, Houston is 11-2 in the last 13 meetings between these two teams while the under is 9-2 in the last 11 meetings between these two teams.

This game features a pair of teams that have struggled with offense lately, and the difference is that Houston’s lack of offense is more surprising considering they’re a perennial championship contender, digital watch or not. I think that with this pitching matchup, we could be in store for another low-scoring affair, so I’ll side with the under as my free pick for this one but my stronger play is on the side and I have that available as a premium pick that you can find here.
