After playing extra innings on Friday, the Los Angeles Angels and the New York Mets face off on Saturday in Anaheim.
The Los Angeles Angels needed extra innings to get it done but on Friday they earned their first home win of the season. Mike Trout had two hits including a home run, J.B. Shuck had a home run, and Howie Kendrick and Erick Aybar each had two hits as the Angels scored five runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Tyler Skaggs allowed nine hits and four runs while striking out four over 7.0 innings but didn’t get a decision as Michael Kohn got the win. For Saturday’s game the Angels start Jered Weaver who is still looking for his first win of the year. So far this season Weaver has allowed 11 hits and eight earned runs while striking out 12 over 12 innings for a 0-2 record and a 9.00 ERA.

The New York Mets fought hard all game on Friday before eventually losing by hitting a batter with the bases loaded. Travis d’Arnaud hit a home run, Daniel Murphy had two hits, and Josh Satin knocked in two runs as the Mets scored four runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Dillon Gee allowed six hits and four runs while striking out five over 5.2 innings to not factor in the decision as Jeurys Familia took the loss to fall to 0-2 on the season. For Saturday’s rematch the Mets start Jon Niese who lost his only start this season. In his last outing Niese allowed six hits and two runs while striking out four over 5.2 innings against the Reds.
Los Angeles is 6-0 in their last five interleague games, 6-2 in their last eight games, and 8-1 in Weaver’s last nine interleague starts. New York is 8-4 in their last 12 road games, 1-7 in their last eight interleague games, and 5-2 in Niese’s last seven road starts.
Weaver is a big favorite here and while he hasn’t been able to win of late I like for him to get it done here.
