The Boston Red Sox play the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field on Wednesday night.
Boston lost 2-1 in the first game of their series in Chicago on Tuesday night. The Red Sox lost three of four in New York this past weekend after taking two of three against Texas at home last week. On the season, Mike Napoli is leading the Red Sox in hitting with a .302 batting average, 3 home runs, and 9 RBIs. David Ortiz is batting .241 with 2 home runs, while Dustin Pedroia is hitting .236 on the year. Boston is hitting .255 as a team this season, while scoring 47 runs overall. Clay Buchholz is 0-1 on the year and will take the mound for the Red Sox on Wednesday. Buchholz has given up 8 runs on 20 hits over 10.1 innings of work. USA TODAY Sports
The White Sox beat the Red Sox 2-1 in the bottom of the 9th last night. Alexei Ramirez stayed hot with a hit and the winning run. Ramirez went 7 for 16 with 6 RBIs in the series over the weekend. Ramirez also hit a walk off two-run homer on Sunday to give the White Sox a 4-3 victory. Conor Gillaspie failed to get a hit safely for the first time in 11 games. Gillaspie is batting .311 with 9 RBIs for Chicago. Adam Dunn was 5 for 11 with two doubles in the last three games coming into this series, and added a homerun in his only at bat last night. John Danks will take the mound in this one after earning a win in his last outing. Danks is 1-0 on the year, allowing 6 runs and 11 hits in 13 innings of work. Danks has 10 strikeouts and 6 walks on the season. Danks is 1-2 in his last 3 meetings with Boston.
Boston has taken 12 of 17 in the series dating back to 2011, and won last season’s series 4-2. David Ortiz hit .381 with 9 RBIs versus Chicago in 2013, but failed to get a hit last night. However, Ortiz is hitting .294 with 2 homeruns against John Danks in his career. It’s only a matter of time until the Red Sox bats come alive and I believe they will get to Danks in this one. I’ll take Boston to get the win on Wednesday.
