The San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres will begin a three-game series on Friday night. This is the first meeting between the two rivals this season.
The Giants took two of three from the Los Angeles Dodgers and have won three of their last four games overall. As expected, the Giants are getting ridiculous production from their pitching staff, as they’ve allowed two or less runs in four of their last five games. Keep in mind that’s with Matt Cain still searching for his first win of the season. Cain enters Friday’s matchup with a 0-2 record and a 4.00 ERA, as he’s allowed nine runs in 18 innings. Cain is 7-11 with a 3.15 ERA in 31 career starts against the Padres.

The Padres split a four-game series against the Colorado Rockies and have won five of their last eight games overall. Much like the Giants, the Padres pitching staff has been on a tear, allowing three or fewer runs in seven of their last nine games. The Padres pitching staff entered Thursday night with the best team ERA in all of baseball. Tyson Ross has yet to pick up a win in three starts, but he has an ERA of 3.12 and has 16 strikeouts in 17.1 innings of work. Ross is 0-2 with a 4.50 ERA in three career starts against the Giants.
The Giants are 0-4 in Cain's last 4 road starts and Giants are 4-1 in their last 5 vs. National League West. The Padres are 1-4 in Ross' last 5 starts and 10-3 in their last 13 during game 1 of a series. Giants are 4-0 in Cain's last 4 starts vs. Padres.
It's tough to go against the Giants with the way they've been playing lately, and Cain has won his last four starts against the Padres. Give me the red hot team with the overall better pitcher.
