The Baltimore Orioles and the Boston Red Sox meet in game two of their weekend series Saturday at 1:35 PM.
The Orioles moved to 8-7 Friday night with a series opening victory over the Red Sox 8-4. The Orioles got another solid outing from Chris Tillman and solid was all he needed to be as the Birds racked up 15 hits and 8 total runs for the game. Both Nick Markakis and Adam Jones were 2-5 with an RBI and Tillman went 5 innings and allowed 7 hits while striking out 5. The Orioles have now won 4 of 5 with all 4 of those being against division rivals. Matt Weiters continues to lead the team in average, homers and rbi’s but Chris Davis is starting to get hot and demonstrate more and more power from game to game.
USA TODAY Sports
Friday night’s loss moved the Red Sox to 7-10 overall. The Red Sox were coming off a narrow win Thursday night over the White Sox and could have very well been a victim of fatigue. Even with the long series against the White Sox in the rear view, the Red Sox still managed to have 11 hits, but never were able to get it close after the Birds opened up a 4-0 lead in the 4th inning. Mike Napoli continues to lead the Red Sox in all key statistical hitting categories with a .304 average, 3 homer runs and 9 RBI’s. On Saturday, the Red Sox will send 1-2 Felix Doubront to the mound. Doubront has a 6.75 ERA and just 8 strikeouts through 3 starts.
The Orioles made pretty easy work of a solid pitcher in Lackey on Friday night and Doubront has struggled in every start from keeping the opposition off the bases and the scoreboard. I like the Orioles bats to be the difference here as Chris Davis goes long and Bud Norris gets the job done as the O’s escape with a narrow win and make it two in a row in the series.
