The Washington Nationals and the St. Louis Cardinals face off on Sunday in Washington as the close out their series.
The Washington Nationals had their strong moments on Saturday but they didn’t have enough of them as they fell to the Cardinals. Danny Espinosa hit a home run and Denard Span and Anthony Rendon each had two hits as the Nationals scored three runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Jordan Zimmerman allowed seven hits and four runs, one earned, while striking out six over 7.0 innings to take the loss and all to 1-1 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Nationals start Stephen Strasburg who is coming off of a loss in a horrible outing. For the season Strasburg has allowed 24 hits and 14 earned runs while striking out 33 over 21 innings for a 1-2 record and a 6.00 ERA.

The St. Louis Cardinals continue to grind out runs and wins and they did it once again on the road in Washington on Saturday. Jon Jay and Tony Cruz had two hits, and Matt Carpenter and Matt Holliday each had hits as the Cardinals scored four runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Lance Lynn allowed five hits and a run while striking out five over 5.2 inning to get the win and go to 4-0 for the season while Trevor Rosenthal earned his fifth save. For Sunday’s game the Cardinals start Shelby Miller who earned his first win of the year in his last outing. For the season Miller has allowed 16 hits and nine earned runs while striking out 14 over 17.1 innings for a 1-2 record and a 4.67 ERA.
Washington is 5-0 in game four of a series, 5-3 in their alst eight home games, and 9-3 in Strasburg’s last 12 starts. St Louis is 5-1 as an underdog, 7-2 in their alst nine games, and 5-2 in Miller’s last seven road starts. St. Louis is 10-1 in the last 11 meetings of these two.
The Cardinals have looked tough in their wins but Miller is the weak link and look for the Nats to get the win at home.
