The Arizona Diamondbacks and Chicago Cubs will begin a four-game series on Monday.
The Diamondbacks have lost eight of their last nine games and have dropped to 5-16 on the season. The lack of consistent offense has killed the Diamondbacks all season, as they’ve scored three or less runs in four of their last six games and have struck out 157 times already. While the offense hopes to turn things around, Bronson Arroyo will get the nod on Monday, and he’s 1-1 on the season with a 9.95 ERA and has allowed 21 hits in 12.2 innings. Arroyo is 13-10 with a 2.91 ERA in 29 career starts against the Cubs.

The Cubs lost two of three to the Cincinnati Reds and have lost six of their last seven games overall. Much like the Diamondbacks, the Cubs are having a hard time putting runs on the board, scoring two or less runs in four of their last five games. There still isn’t one Cubs’ batter who has double-digit RBI this season. Taking the mound on Monday will be Travis Wood, who is 0-2 this season with a 3.00 ERA and has 19 strikeouts in 18 innings. Wood is 1-4 with a 6.33 ERA in five career starts against the Diamondbacks.
The Diamondbacks are 1-7 in their last 8 games vs. a left-handed starter and 8-21 in their last 29 games as an underdog. The Cubs are 7-22 in Woods last 29 home starts and 12-30 in their last 42 home games. The Diamondbacks are 3-9 in the last 12 meetings in Chicago.
This game is really a question of which struggling team is going to suck less. With that said, I like the value we're getting with the Diamondbacks. Arroyo is a veteran pitcher who has had success in his career against the Cubs, while Wood is coming off a game where he allowed 11 hits in 5.2 innings.
Take the Diamondbacks to get a rare win.
