The Los Angeles Angels and Washington Nationals will begin a three-game series on Monday night.
The Angels lost two of three games against the Detroit Tigers and are trying to find their offensive production. The Angels have scored a combined three runs in their last two games, and Mike Trout and Raul Ibanez have struck out a combined 42 times. The Angels will have a chance to get back on track with Garrett Richards taking the mound, as he’s 2-0 on the season with a 2.84 ERA and has 18 strikeouts in 19 innings. This will be Richards first time pitching against the Nationals in his career.
USA TODAY Sports
The Nationals are coming off a split series against the St. Louis Cardinals and have won three of their last five games. The Nationals have scored three or less runs in five of their last six games, and Bryce Harper has just three hits in his last five games. The Nationals pitching staff has also been up and down lately, and Tanner Roark will get the start on Monday. Roark has allowed 10 runs and 18 hits in 17 innings of work and has struck out 13 batters. This will be the first time Roark has pitched against the Angels in his short career.
The Angels are 4-9 in Richards' last 13 starts vs. a team with a winning record and 1-6 in Richards' last 7 starts as a road underdog. The Nationals are 4-1 in Roarks last 5 starts vs. a team with a losing record and 1-5 in their last 6 interleague games vs. a right-handed starter. The Angels are 5-1 in the last 6 meetings.
With both teams being so inconsistent, I’ll take the team that’s getting the plus money. Not to mention Richards has been solid to begin the season.
Give me the Angels.
