The New York Mets and the St. Louis Cardinals face off on Tuesday at Citi Field for game two of their series.
The New York Mets started their series against the Cardinals off on the right foot shutting them out on Monday. Travis d’Arnaud had two hits, David Wright had a hit and a RBI, and Daniel Murphy had a hit as the Mets scored two runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Jenrry Mejia allowed four hits and struck out seven without allowing a run over 6.2 innings to get the win and go to 3-0 on the season and Kyle Farnsworth picked up his first save of the season. For Tuesday’s game the Mets start Dillon Gee who picked up his first win of the year in his last start. For the season Gee has allowed 19 hits and 11 runs while striking out 17 over 26.2 innings of work for a 1-0 record and a 3.71 ERA.

The St. Louis Cardinals were just never able to solve Mets pitching on Monday as they lost game one of the series. Matt Carpenter, Allen Craig, and Yadier Molina had two hits each as the Cardinals failed to score on six hits. Starting pitcher Tyler Lyons pitched well allowing six hits and two runs while striking out seven over 6.0 innings to take the loss. For Saturday’s game the Cardinals start Adam Wainwright who has won his last two starts. For the season Wainwright has allowed 17 hits and six earned runs while striking out 32 over 30 innings for a 3-1 record and a 1.80 ERA.
New York is 5-1 against the NL Central, 6-2 in their last eight games, and 4-10 in Gee’s last 14 starts as a home underdog. St. Louis is 55-25 following a loss, 4-1 in game two of a series, and 17-8 in Wainwright’s last 25 road starts. St. Louis is 1-4 in Wainwrights’ last five starts against the Mets.
While I hate the odds, I see Wainwright stopping the Cards losing streak at two.
