The Texas Rangers and Oakland Athletics will play game two of a three-game series on Tuesday. The Rangers won game one, 4-3.
The Rangers are one of the hottest teams in all of baseball, winning six of their last seven games. The Rangers bats have finally woken up, scoring four or more runs in four of their last five games, and Prince Fielder has five hits in his last four games. With the offense doing its job, the Rangers pitching staff needs to get on board and that starts with Nick Martinez. Martinez allowed four hits and three runs in six innings in his first start of his career, picking up the no decision against the Tampa Bay Rays. This will be Martinez’s first time pitching against the Athletics.

The Athletics lost their three-game winning streak, but have still won seven of their last nine games. While Josh Donaldson, Jed Lowrie and Yoenis Cespedes are just three of the five A's batters with at least 17 hits, it’s the Athletics pitching staff that has allowed three or less runs in six of their last nine games that has led the way to a 13-6 record. Tommy Milone can only hope to keep that production up, as he’s 1-0 on the season with a 4.09 ERA and has struck out eight batters in 11 innings. Milone is 1-4 with a 5.06 ERA in six career starts against the Rangers.
The Rangers are 1-7 in their last 8 games as an underdog and 8-2 in their last 10 during game 2 of a series. The Athletics are 6-1 in Milone's last 7 starts as a favorite and 1-5 in Milone's last 6 starts following a Quality Start in his last appearance.
Martinez is a young, promising pitcher with a bright future and wasn't too shabby in his first start. Meanwhile, Milone has had trouble against the Rangers in his career, and this is easily the best Rangers lineup he's had to face yet. There's value in getting the Rangers plus money.
Take Texas for the win.
