The Baltimore Orioles left Boston getting a win on Monday but also with a clear picture that they have big bullpen issues blowing gigantic leads. The Orioles are 5-5 on the road, 6-4 in their last 10 games, and they are 1.5 games off the pace in the AL East. As a team the Orioles are hitting .265 with Matt Wieters hitting .321, Adam Jones hitting .310, and Nelson Cruz hitting .281. The Baltimore pitching staff has an ERA of 4.03 with the starters at 4.57 and the bullpen at 3.09. For game one at Toronto the Orioles start Miguel Gonzalez who is coming off of his first win of the year. For the season Gonzalez has allowed 19 hits and 10 earned runs while striking out 10 over 14.1 innings for a 1-1 record and 6.28 ERA.
Toronto is 4-0 in game one of a series, 5-1 following a loss, and 5-2 in Dickey’s last seven home starts. Baltimore is 5-0 against a team with a winning record, 6-2 as an underdog, and 5-11 in Gonzalez’s last 16 road starts. Baltimore is 13-40 in their last 53 games in Toronto.
This is one of those games that is just tough to like much as we know Dickey’s track record at home is solid but his record of late isn’t while Gonzalez was three hits and a shutout last time during what has been not his best start but off of that last effort he and O’s are my play here.
