The Cleveland Indians and the Kansas City Royals face off on Wednesday at Progressive Field for game two of their AL Central series.
The Cleveland Indians jumped out to an early lead on Tuesday but they were unable to hold on as they fell to the Royals. Michael Bourn, Nick Swisher, Michael Brantley, and Yan Gomes each had two hits as the Indians scored two runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Danny Salazar had another disappointing outing as he allowed seven hits and five runs, four earned while striking out six over 4.1 innings to take the loss and fall to 0-3 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Indians start Justin Masterson who is still looking for his first win of the year. For the season Masterson has allowed 23 hits and 12 earned runs whiles striking out 24 over 21.2 innings for a 0-0 record and a 4.98 ERA.
USA TODAY Sports
The Kansas City Royals have had their struggles on the road but they showed no signs if them on Tuesday clubbing the Indians. Mike Moustakas hit a home run, Eric Hosmer had four hits, and Billy Butler and Alcides Escobar had two hits each as the Royals scored eight runs on 13 hits. Starting pitcher James Shields allowed six hits and two runs while striking out nine over 6.0 innings to get the win and go to 2-2 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Royals start Jason Vargas who hasn’t lost this season. For the season Vargas has allowed 21 hits and four earned runs while striking out 16 over 29 innings for a 2-0 record and a 1.24 ERA.
Cleveland is 36-17 as a home favorite, 12-3 at home against a left-handed starter, and 12-5 in Masterson’s last 17 starts as a favorite. Kansas City is 6-2 in their last eight games, 2-5 in game three of a series, and 1-4 in their last five games as an underdog. Kansas City is 3-7 in their last 10 games in Cleveland.
The total is set at 7.5 and while both of these pitchers can be tough when they get rolling I like the over with my free pick.
I also have a play on the winning side and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
