The Washington Nationals and Los Angeles Angels conclude their series at Nationals Park.
A big first inning set the tone in the Angels 4-0 road win over Washington on Tuesday that gave the visitors two consecutive decisions over the Nationals. Los Angeles jumped to a 4-0 lead and never looked back in a 7-2 victory as both the work on the mound and at the plate were on the same page. Tyler Skaggs picked up the win with both runs allowed on three hits and seven BB in seven frames. The offense totaled nine hits and rode the two homer effort of Albert Pujols who drove in five with David Freese and Chris Iannetta adding RBI's. Ace Jered Weaver takes the ball looking to put together back to back quality starts. Weaver is coming in off of an 11-6 victory at Detroit in which he allowed just a single run over six innings pitched.

The Nationals are looking for an early season hot streak and after Tuesday's 8-2 home loss to the Angels they are still looking. The Nats struggled in most areas with starter Taylor Jordan charged six runs (four earned) on eight hits through five innings of work including a pair of Albert Pujols long bombs. The bats struggled as well with only three hits and four bases on balls to lean on which wasn't enough to be competitive. The Nationals saw Sandy Leon and Taylor Jordan score third inning runs to cut their deficit to 4-2 but the offense could not get un tracked the rest of the way. Left hander Gio Gonzalez faces the Angels for the first time since 2011 when he toes the rubber on Wednesday. Gonzalez knocked off St Louis 3-1 last time out with the lone run given up over seven frames.
The Angels are looking for Weaver to get going and that is a matter of time while Washington needs another big effort from Gonzalez witth the bats going silent. Not really a great game to bet in my view but that never has stopped me...
