The Arizona Diamondbacks hope to split their series with the Cubs at Wrigley Field in Thursday action.
If any team needed a win it was the Diamondbacks and they used some 9th inning magic to upend the Cubs 7-5 Wednesday. Trailing 5-2 entering their final at bat, Arizona scored five times against three relievers to improve to 6-18. Wade Miley was the benefactor of the rally as he avoided the loss despite giving up all five runs (three earned) on four hits over five frames. The bats totaled ten hits and four walks with Aaron Hill going 4-5 with a pair of RBI's while Martin Prado knocked in two more. Rookie Michael Bolsinger makes his second career start against the Cubs on Thursday. Bolsinger struggled in his debut with six runs allowed on seven hits in four frames of an 8-6 loss.

The Cubs appeared to be in position for their third consecutive victory before their bullpen and defense failed them during a five run 9th that turned a three run lead in to a disappointing 7-5 defeat. In the process Jeff Samardzija saw a great outing turn in to a no decision. Samardzija gave up only two runs in seven innings before Pedro Stropp took the loss with four runs plated (one earned) in the 9th with a Starlin Castro error opening the floodgates. Chicago didn't pound the ball with five hits and a trio of base on balls with Justin Ruggiano leading the way with a two run homer. The Cubs really hurt themselves at the plate with 13 strikeouts. Veteran Edwin Jackson takes the ball in the final game of the series with the Diamondbacks. Jackson is coming off his first victory of 2014 when he gave up a pair of runs on eight hits over 5.2 innings of an 8-4 decision versus Cincinnati.
We don't know what Bolsinger is going to do and for that matter we don't know what Jackson is going to do. The numbers say their will be some scoring so when a total is released I'll be looking at that...
