The Detroit Tigers and the Chicago White Sox meet on Thursday afternoon at Tiger Stadium for game four of their AL Central series.
The Detroit Tigers have lost two of their first three games against the White Sox but they still are in first place in the AL Central. On Wednesday Austin Jackson hit a two-run home run, Victor Martinez had two hits, and J.D. Martinez had a hit and two RBI’s as the Tigers scored four runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Drew Smyly allowed six hits and two runs while striking out seven over 6.0 innings to not factor in the decision as Evan Reed took the loss and Ian Krol blew the save. For Thursday’s game the Tigers start Max Scherzer as they hope to salvage the split. For the season Scherzer has allowed 19 hits and seven runs while striking out 34 over 27 innings for a 1-1 record and a 2.33 ERA.

The Chicago White Sox are coming off of a horrible season but they appear to have things headed in the right direction. On Wednesday Marcus Semien and Jose Abreu each had home runs and Paul Konerko had three hits as the White Sox scored six runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Andre Rienzo allowed five hits and four runs while striking out three over 6.1 innings to get the win and Matt Lindstrom earned his second save. For Thursday’s game Chicago starts Jose Quintana who is coming off of his worst outing of the year. For the season Quintana has allowed 24 hits and 10 earned runs while striking out 19 over 24 innings for a 1-1 record and a 3.75 ERA.
Detroit is 5-0 in game four of a series, 16-5 at home against a left-handed starter, and 39-13 in Scherzer’s last 52 starts as a favorite. Chicago is 6-2 against the AL Central, 3-5 in their last eight games, and 1-4 in Quintana’s last five starts as an underdog. Chicago is 20-44 in the last 64 games against the Tigers.
This game is the story of the series, the Tigers laying way too big of a number. Quintana has been solid and if we throw at his last outing we have to believe at this price he is worth a play.
