The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Cincinnati Reds face off o Thursday afternoon at PNC Park for game four of their NL Central series.
The Pittsburgh Pirates got the win to open this series on Monday but since then it has been all reds as the Pirates lost the last two. On Wednesday Andrew McCutchen had two hits including a home run and Starling Marte and Chris Stewart each had two hits as the Pirates scored two runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Charlie Morton allowed four hits and four runs while striking out four over 6.0 innings tot ake the loss and fall to 0-3 for the season. For Thursday’s game Pittsburgh brings up Brandon Crumpton from Indianapolis. In three starts in the Minors this season Crumpton is 2-0 with a 1.42 ERA in 19 innings of work.

The Cincinnati Reds came into Pittsburgh struggling but they appear to be working themselves back as they are still missing key components of their pitching staff. On Wednesday Billy Hamilton and Jay Bruce had two hits each and Joey Votto added a hit as the Reds scored five runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Alfredo Simon allowed four hits and two runs while striking out four over 6.2 innings to get the win and Jonathan Broxton earned his third save. For Thursday’s game the Reds start Tony Cingrani who took a loss in his last outing. For the season Cingrani has allowed 14 hits and eight runs while striking out 23 over 22.1 innings for a 1-2 record and a 3.22 ERA.
Pittsburgh is 7-1 against a left-handed starter, 1-5 in their last six games, and 1-5 in their last six home games. Cincinnati is 6-2 in their last eight games, 6-2 against the NL central, and 1-4 in CIngrani’s last five starts on one days’ rest.
