The Philadelphia Phillies continue their series with the Arizona Diamondbacks in Saturday action.
The Phillies are hopeful they can squeeze a National League East title out of this team but that likely means that Atlanta has to slow down and slides of any length are disasterous. Things had been looking good as the team opened their series in Arizona with wins in four of five but it all ended in Friday's 5-4 defeat as a late rally fell short. Roberto Hernandez gave up four runs over six frames and the bats never caught up despite numerous opportunities. The attack posted eleven hits and walked twice with three players driving in runs but a 4-0 hole was too deep to climb out of. Veteran lefty Cliff Lee looks to continue his strong work on the mound when he faces off with Arizona at Chase Field. Lee has allowed a total of four runs in his last four outings covering 30 innings.

After a miserable start to the year the Diamondbacks have won three in a row. The bad news is they still stand at 8-18 so there is plenty of work to do just to reach .500 which won't be easy to accomplish and compete for the NL West crown. The offense has been producing during their modest streak and on Friday the pitching of Josh Collmenter got in to the act as well. Collmenter tossed a four hit shutout over six frames before five relievers allowed four runs to make the team sweat. The bats received some help from the long ball with Aaron Hill going deep and driving in three while AJ Pollock went solo. Bronson Arroyo is scheduled to be on the bump Saturday versus visiting Philadelphia. Arroyo is trying to shake off a slow start where he has gone 1-2 with an 11.02 ERA in only 13.2 innings of work.
Arroyo is struggling right now and the challenged Philadelphia offense has to take advantage. If Lee continues to throw well a few runs might get the job done and the Phillies need this bad...
