The Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Dodgers will play game two of a three-game series on Saturday night. The Rockies won game one, 5-4 in the 11th inning.
The Rockies have won six of their last eight games and are getting the job done both with the lineup and the pitching rotation. The Rockies have allowed two or less runs in five of their last eight games and have scored five or more runs in five of their last seven games. Charlie Blackmon is leading the way with the bat, as he has four homeruns and eight RBI in his last six games. The Rockies pitching staff is led by guys such as Juan Nicasio, who gets the nod on Saturday. Nicasio is 2-0 this season with a 4.30 ERA and has 20 strikeouts in 23 innings. Nicasio is also 3-2 with a 3.67 ERA in eight career starts against the Dodgers.
USA TODAY Sports
The Dodgers continue their slump, losing four of their last five games and their offense is a big reason for the underachieving. Despite having a batting order with tons of potential, the Dodgers have scored three or less runs in 12 of their first 24 games, including in three of their last five games. Yasiel Puig, however, did hit his third homerun of the season in Friday’s loss to the Rockies. Taking the mound Saturday will be Paul Maholm, who is 0-2 on the season with a 5.60 ERA and has allowed 11 runs and 22 hits in 17.2 innings. Maholm is 1-8 with a 6.63 ERA in 10 career starts against the Rockies.
The Rockies are 4-1 in Nicasio's last 5 starts and 2-5 in Nicasio's last 7 starts as an underdog. The Dodgers are 61-28 in their last 89 games vs. a right-handed starter and 16-7 in their last 23 home games vs. a team with a winning record.
Maholm's career numbers against the Rockies should be enough for you to consider taking Colorado. Not to mention the Dodgers haven't exactly been lighting it up offensively.
Nicasio has been decent to begin the season and is worth a shot with plus money.
