The St. Louis Cardinals won on Friday scoring just one run but they were unable to duplicate the feat on Saturday as they fell to the Pirates. Starting pitcher Tyler Lyons allowed four hits and four runs while striking out four over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 0-2 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Cards start Adam Wainwright who hasn’t allowed a run in his last two starts. For the season Wainwright has allowed 21 hits and six earned runs while striking out 35 over 37 innings with a 4-1 record and a .46 ERA.

The Pittsburgh Pirates couldn’t score a run in St. Louis on Friday but on Saturday they scored plenty to get the win. Jose Tabata had three hits, Gay Sanchez had a hit and drove in two runs, and Andrew McCutchen had a hit, drover in a run, and scored a run as the Pirates scored six runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Francisco Liriano ad to leave after two innings with flu like symptoms and Stolmy Pimentel earned the win to go to 2-0 on the season. For Sunday’s game the Pirates start Edinson Volquez who is coming off of his first loss of the season. For the season Volquez has allowed 21 hits and six runs while striking out 16 over 28 innings for a 1-1 record and a 1.93 ERA.
St. Louis is 5-2 against the NL Central, 43-17 in their last 60 home games, and 39-19 in Wainwright’s last 58 starts. Pittsburgh is 2-6 in their last eight road games, 1-4 in their last five games, and 2-6 as a road underdog. Pittsburgh is 2-7 in their last nine games in St. Louis.
The Cardinals aren’t hitting so it just seems tough to lay this kind of price with them so the smarter play here looks to be the under.
