For the second time this season, the Atlanta Braves and Miami Marlins will play a three-game series. The Braves took two of three from the Marlins a week ago.
The Braves have been one of the hottest teams in baseball winning seven of their last nine games. During this stretch, the Braves pitching staff has been sharp, allowing two or less runs in five of their last six games and they average close to a strikeout per inning. Offensively, Justin Upton has hit three homeruns in his last seven games and Freddie Freeman has 12 hits in his last 10 games. Taking the mound Tuesday will be Alex Wood, who is 2-3 with a 1.54 ERA and has 35 strikeouts in 35 innings. Wood is 0-2 with a 3.72 ERA in three career starts against the Marlins.

The Marlins can’t seem to play with any consistency, as they’ve now lost four of their last six games and are three games below .500. Of course, these struggles have come on the road, as the Marlins are 2-10 away from home this season. Offensively, the Marlins have scored three or less runs in six of their last seven games and Giancarlo Stanton has struck out 13 times in his last 10 games. However, the Marlins have to feel good with Jose Fernandez on the mound, a pitcher who is 3-1 with a 1.99 ERA and has 47 strikeouts in 31.2 innings. Fernandez is 2-1 with a 1.29 ERA in three career starts against the Braves.
The Braves are 41-19 in their last 60 during game 1 of a series and 31-14 in their last 45 games following an off day. The Marlins are 15-3 in Fernandez's last 18 home starts and 12-4 in Fernandez's last 16 starts. The Braves are 22-6 in the last 28 meetings in Miami.
I don't know about you, but I know picking against Fernandez usually doesn't end well. The kid is probably going to win the CY Young as long as he keeps this up. Don't be a fool by pick ing against the Marlins on Tuesday.
