The Los Angeles Dodgers and Minnesota Twins will begin their series on Wednesday.
The Dodgers continue to underachieve, losing five of their last seven games and dropping to 14-12 on the season. During this stretch, the Dodgers have struggled to score runs, producing three or less runs in four of their last seven games. Matt Kemp is batting just .221 and Adrian Gonzalez is the only Dodger with 15 or more RBI. The Dodgers pitching staff has also struggled lately, giving up five or more runs in four of their last seven games. Zack Greinke can change all of this, as he’s 4-0 with a 2.45 ERA and has 40 strikeouts in 29.1 innings. Greinke is 4-8 with a 4.73 ERA in 18 career starts against the Twins.
USA TODAY Sports
The Twins have been up and down throughout the season, but have won three of their last four games. While the Twins pitching has been absolutely brutal, Chris Colabello is having an awesome start to the season with three homeruns and 27 RBI. Colabello has at least one RBI in 11 of the Twins first 23 games. The Twins pitching, however, has allowed four or more runs in seven of their last nine games. Kyle Gibson has been solid for the Twins, as he’s 3-1 with 3.63 ERA and has 13 strikeouts in 22.1 innings. This will be Gibson’s first time pitching against the Dodgers in his career.
The Dodgers are 13-5 in their last 18 games following an off day and 11-3 in Greinke's last 14 road starts. The Twins are 5-1 in their last 6 games vs. a right-handed starter and 4-1 in Gibson's last 5 starts as an underdog. The Dodgers are 1-5 in the last 6 meetings in Minnesota.
While this is usually too chalky for my taste, Greinke has given me no reason to pick against him this season. Pick the Dodgers as long as you feel the price is fair.
