The Cincinnati Reds and the Chicago Cubs face off on Wednesday after Tuesday’s marathon game that had several rain delays.
The Cincinnati Reds fell behind early but they weathered the storm to get the win on Tuesday. Billy Hamilton had three hits including a home run, Zack Cozart had two hits, and Brayan Pena had two hits as the Reds scored three runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Alfredo Simon allowed five hits and two runs while striking out five over 6.0 innings to get the win and go to 4-1 for the season and Jonathan Broxton earned his fifth save. For Wednesday’s game the Reds start Tony Cingrani who has won two of this last three starts. For the season CIngrani has allowed 20 hits and nine runs while striking out 30 over 28.1 innings for a 2-2 record and a 2.86 ERA.

The Chicago Cubs got off to an early lead on Tuesday but they were unable to hold on as they took the loss in Cincinnati. Emilio Bonifacio and Ryan Kalish each had two hits and Starlin Castro had a hit as the Cubs scored two runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher jeff Samardzjia allowed eight hits and three earned runs while striking out four over 5.2 innings to take the loss and fall to 0-3 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Cubs start Edwin Jackson who beat the Reds when he faced them earlier this season. For the year Jackson has allowed 32 hits and 16 earned run while striking out 23 over 28.2 innings for a 1-2 record and a 5.02 ERA.
Cincinnati is 5-1 against the NL Central, 5-10 in their last 15 home games, and 1-4 in Cingrani’s ast five starts in game two of a series. Chicago is 12-5 on the road in their last 17 road games against a left-handed starter, 3-7 in game two of a series, and 3-13 in Jackson’s last 16 road starts. Chicago is 9-21 in their last 30 games in Cincinnati.
The Reds are a big favorite here and as much as don’t like laying big numbers, I like the Cubs In this spot a lot less.
