The Kansas City Royals and the Toronto Blue jays face off on Wednesday at Kauffman Stadium as they continue their series.
The Kansas City Royals trailed most of the way on Tuesday but they took the lead for good in the bottom of the eighth inning to get the win. Salvador Perez had two hits including a home run and Norichika Aoki, Billy Butler, and Jarrod Dyson had two hits as the Royals scored 10 runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Jason Vargas allowed 10 hits and five runs while striking out five over 6.1 innings to not factor in the decision as Aaron Crow got the win to go to 1-1 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Royals start Yordano Ventura who has been solid this season with just one poor outing. For the season Ventura has allowed 19 hits and five earned runs while striking out 27 over 25 innings for a 2-1 record and a 1.80 ERA.

The Toronto Blue Jays looked like winners most of the way on Tuesday but they were unable to hold on for the win. Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion each had home runs and Dioner Navarro, Melky Cabrera, and Jose Reyes each had two hits as the Blue Jays scored seven runs on 12 hits. Starting pitcher Dustin McGowan allowed three hits and three runs, two earned, while striking out two over 6.0 innings to not factor in the decision as Brett Cecil took the loss to fall to 0-2 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Blue Jays start Drew Hutchison who has three no decisions in his last three starts. For the season Hutchison allowed 27 hits and 10 earned runs while striking out 33 over 26 innings for a 1-1 record and a 3.46 ERA.
Kansas City is 6-2 against the AL East, 18-7 in their last 25 home games, and 2-4 against a team with a losing record. Toronto is 1-4 in game two of a series, 1-5 in their last six games, and 0-5 against a right-handed starter. Toronto is 6-2 in their last eight games in Kansas City.
