The Tampa Bay Rays battle the Boston Red Sox in game number one of their doubleheader Thursday.
Tampa Bay is in struggle mode right now and simply need a win to get going. That didn't happen in a series opening 7-4 defeat at Fenway Park Tuesday where the bats didn't get the job done with the work on the mound not helping. Starter Erik Bedard was solid with a run allowed in five frames but Brandon Gomes and Juan Oviedo were charged with five runs in a combined inning pitched. The struggling offense mustered eight hits and a pair of BB with three driving in runs and three scoring. Chris Archer gets the call in game one of the twin bill looking to get back in the win column. Archer did not get a decision in a 9-6 loss to the White Sox where he gave up four runs on nine hits in six frames.

The Red Sox haven't been racking up the wins as many expected but they aren't in terrible shape in the standings...yet. Boston put everything together in Tuesday's win with solid starting pitching and a five run 6th. John Lackey improved to 4-2 with a pair of runs scored through eight frames while the bats pounded out 13 hits and walked five times. Shane Victorino went 4-4 with a two run double with Jackie Bradley posting a pair of hits with two RBI's and a run scored. Veteran Jake Peavy looks to continue his hot work on the mound when he faces Tampa Bay Thursday. Peavy is 1-0 with a 2.87 ERA with four quality starts where he gave up a combined five runs allowed.
I am waiting for a line to come out but I lean to Peavy who has been very good thus far while the Boston offense has the potential. Not a big lean but based more on which team has played a bit better...
