The Cincinnati Reds and the Milwaukee Brewers face off on Friday in Cincinnati for game two of their NL Central series.
The Cincinnati Reds have had their share of struggles this season bit they cut into Milwaukee’s lead in the NL Central with a win on Thursday. Todd Frazier, Tucker Barnhart, and Brayan Pena each hit home runs as the Reds scored eight runs on 12 hits. Starting pitcher Homer Bailey allowed eight hits and three runs while striking out four over 8.0 innings for the win and to raise his record to 2-2. For Friday’s game the Reds start Mike Leake who took the loss in his last start. For the season Leake has allowed 30 hits and 15 earned runs while striking out 20 over 35.1 innings for a 2-2 record and a 3.82 ERA.

The Milwaukee Brewers have been the hottest team in baseball but they cooled off a little on Thursday taking the loss in Cincinnati. Jean Segura had two hits and Carlos Gomez, and Jonathan Lucroy were among those getting hits as the Brewers scored three runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Marco Estrada allowed six hits and three runs while striking out six over 6.0 innings to not factor in the decision as Jim Henderson took the loss to fall to 1-1 for the season. For Friday’s game the Brewers start Wily Peralta who is coming off of his first loss of the season. For the year Peralta has allowed 29 hits and nine earned runs while striking out 25 over 31.2 innings for a 3-1 record and a 2.56 ERA.
Cincinnati is 5-1 as a favorite, 5-1 in their last six home games, and 5-1 in Leake’s last six home starts. Milwaukee is 10-3 in their last 13 starts as an underdog, 19-8 in their last 27 games overall, and 6-1 in Peralta’s last seven starts. Milwaukee is 10-28 in their last 38 games in Cincinnati.
