The Seattle Mariners and Houston Astros will play game two of a three-game series on Saturday afternoon. The Astros won Friday’s matchup in the 11th inning, 5-4.
The Mariners had their three-game winning streak come to an end with the loss, but have still won five of their last seven games. With the loss, the Mariners are 2-14 this season when scoring four or fewer runs. That tells you that the Mariners pitching has been a little inconsistent, but certainly their offense hasn’t helped them out much. However, Robinson Cano has 13 hits and six RBI in his last 10 games. Hisashi Iwakuma will see his first action of the season, and he was 14-6 last year with a 2.66 ERA and 185 strikeouts in 219.2 innings. Iwakuma is 2-1 with a 1.38 ERA in four career starts against the Astros.

The Astros have won three of their last five games and became the last team of the season to reach 10 wins with the victory on Friday. The Astros produced 11 hits in the win, but it was only the 11th time this season they’ve scored four or more runs. It’s no secret the Astros have one of the worst offenses in the big leagues, as Matt Dominguez and Jason Castro are the only two players with double-digit RBI. Getting the nod for the Astros will be Dallas Keuchel, who is 2-1 with a 3.56 ERA and has 30 strikeouts in 30.1 innings. Keuchel is 1-2 with a 2.57 ERA in three career starts against the Mariners.
The Mariners are 5-2 in Iwakuma's last 7 road starts vs. a team with a losing record and 13-6 in Iwakuma's last 19 starts vs. American League West. The Astros are 2-7 in Keuchel's last 9 home starts and 4-9 in Keuchel's last 13 starts.
Iwakuma was money last season and has high quality stuff. The problem is this will be Iwakuma's first time pitching this season. Still, while I'd be careful with how much I put down on this matchup, you have to like the Mariners to get the job done. The price seems fair enough to fade the Astros once again.
