The Chicago Cubs will go for the sweep over the St. Louis Cardinals when they play Sunday night on ESPN.
The Cardinals have lost four of their last five games and are one game back from .500. In Saturday’s 3-0 loss, the Cardinals were shutout for the fourth time this season and fall to 3-14 when being held to three or less runs. Matt Holliday has gotten on base at least once in 11 straight games and Jhonny Peralta has back-to-back multi-hit games in this series. Taking the mound for the Cardinals on Sunday will be Lance Lynn, who is 4-1 with a 3.60 ERA and he has 40 strikeouts in 35 innings. Lynn is 6-3 with a 3.20 ERA in nine career starts against the Cubs.

Don’t look now, but the Cubs have won four of their last five games and are six games back from a .500 record. The big turnaround for the Cubs starts with their offense, as they’ve scored a combined 22 runs in their last four wins. The pitching also hasn’t been too shabby for the Cubs, as two of those four victories have resulted in shutouts. Anthony Rizzo has six RBI in his last three games and Starlin Castro has a seven-game hitting streak. Starting for the Cubs is Jason Hammel, who is 4-1 with a 2.08 ERA and has struck out 27 in 34.2 innings. Hammel is 1-1 with a 5.79 ERA in two career starts against the Cardinals.
The Cardinals are 17-5 in Lynn's last 22 starts during game 3 of a series and 1-5 in Lynn's last 6 starts as a road favorite. The Cubs are 4-1 in Hammel's last 5 starts and 7-19 in their last 26 during game 3 of a series.
It doesn't make sense to jump off the wave now. It's not very often when the Cubs provide value, but they've been playing well lately, are at home and playing on national TV. Not to mention Hammel has been lights out this season and gives the Cubs a real chance for the sweep.
The Cubs have made us money in this series, and we'll take another chance at plus money.
