The Arizona Diamondbacks and Milwaukee Brewers take the field for a three-game series that begins Monday.
The Diamondbacks took two of three from the San Diego Padres and have lost five of their last eight games overall. The Diamondbacks have arguably the worst pitching staff in all of baseball, entering Sunday with a team ERA of 4.97 and allowing four or more runs in six of their last nine games. Offensively, Paul Goldschmidt has four multi-hit games in his last six, while Aaron Hill has eight RBI in his last nine games. Getting the start Monday will be Mike Bolsinger, who is 1-1 with a 5.79 ERA and has 19 strikeouts in 18.2 innings. This will be Bolsinger’s first career game against the Brewers.
USA TODAY Sports
The Brewers lost three of four to the Cincinnati Reds and have lost five of their last eight games overall, really cooling off from their hot start to the season. The Brewers still have one of the best pitching rotations in baseball statistically, but have allowed four or more runs in five of their last six games. The Brewers offense, however, has been held to three or less runs in five straight games. Aramis Ramirez has just one hit in his last 10 games. The Brewers will start Matt Garza, who is 1-3 with a 5.00 ERA and has 30 strikeouts in 36 innings. Garza is 3-1 with a 2.48 ERA in four career starts against the Diamondbacks.
The Diamondbacks are 10-23 in their last 33 games as an underdog and 6-2 in their last 8 games vs. a right-handed starter. The Brewers are 9-3 in their last 12 during game 1 of a series and 19-9 in their last 28 games vs. a right-handed starter. The Diamondbacks are 6-1 in the last 7 meetings.
Neither pitcher has been great and neither team has been all that hot lately. With that being the case along with the fact the Diamondbacks have had success against the Brewers in recent meetings, I see value in taking Arizona on the road.
