The Miami Marlins will go for the sweep over the New York Mets on Wednesday afternoon.
The Mets have lost five of their last six games and have fallen to a .500 record after getting off to a hot start. The issues for the Mets haven’t changed much, as they’ve allowed four or more runs in four of their last six games. Meanwhile, the Mets offense has scored just three runs in the first two games of this series, which includes being shutout, 3-0, on Tuesday. Curtis Granderson, however, does have two homers in his last five games. Getting the nod on Wednesday will be Zack Wheeler, who is 1-3 with a 5.13 ERA and has 32 strikeouts in 33.1 innings. Wheeler is 0-0 with a 2.08 ERA in two career starts against the Marlins.
USA TODAY Sports
Don’t look now, but the Marlins have won seven of their last eight games and are three games above .500. The Marlins pitching staff has allowed three or less runs in five of their last eight games, which includes two shutouts. Offensively the Marlins are killing the baseball, including Giancarlo Stanton, who has 12 hits and 11 RBI in his last 10 games. The Marlins are 16-5 at home this season. Starting Wednesday will be Tom Koehler, who is 3-2 with a 2.41 ERA and has 24 strikeouts in 37.1 innings. Koehler is 1-2 with a 3.03 ERA in five career starts against the Mets.
The Mets are 7-3 in Wheeler's last 10 road starts and 1-6 in Wheeler's last 7 starts as an underdog. The Marlins are 4-0 in Koehler's last 4 home starts and 2-6 in Koehler's last 8 starts during game 3 of a series.
It's impossibe to bet against the Marlins with the way they've been playing at home. The Mets are having a hard time putting runs on the board and Koehler has been a solid pitcher who has pitched fairly well in Miami. As long as the odds keep giving the Marlins a cheap price, I'm going to keep riding them until they cool off.
