The Colorado Rockies are looking for the four-game sweep over the Texas Rangers on Thursday night.
The Rockies have won six of their last seven games and continue to be one of the biggest surprises in all of baseball early on. The Rockies offense has been on fire all year, scoring four or more runs in 10 of their last 11 games. Carlos Gonzalez has three homers in his last seven games and Troy Tulowitzki has 14 RBI in his last nine games. The Rockies pitching staff has also done a solid job, allowing just five runs in this four-game series. Taking the mound Thursday is Franklin Morales, who is 3-1 with a 5.05 ERA and has 28 strikeouts in 35.2 innings. Morales has pitched six times against the Rangers, but this will be his first career start.
USA TODAY Sports
The Rangers drop to .500 with losses in four of their last five games. You can’t blame either side for the Rangers struggles, as their offense has scored no more than three runs in seven of their last nine games. But the Rangers pitching staff hasn’t helped by giving up five or more runs in six of their last eight games. Prince Fielder continues to be a bust by batting just .226, but Shin-Soo Choo does have five multi-hit games in his last six games. Matt Harrison makes his third start, and he’s 0-0 with a 4.35 ERA and has seven strikeouts in 10.1 innings. This is Harrison’s second career start against the Rockies.
The Rockies are 5-0 in Morales' last 5 starts as an underdog and 4-0 in Morales' last 4 starts. The Rangers are 8-3 in Harrison's last 11 home starts and 0-5 in Harrison's last 5 starts.
Why not take the Rockies with the added value? The Rangers are playing like hot garbage the last couple of weeks and have shown no signs of being able to beat the Rockies. Meanwhile, the Rockies are tearing the cover off the ball.
I'll keep riding the hotter team in this game.
