The Los Angeles Dodgers look to make up some ground in the NL West with a win over San Francisco.
San Francisco's quest to turn around a dismal 2013 has gone as planned thus far with the team sitting atop the National League West after 30+ games. The hated Dodgers are viewed as one of their biggest threats so Thursday's 3-1 victory in ten innings was more then welcome. Starter Ryan Vogelsong is also trying to recover from a poor season and pitcher and team took a step towards their goal with Vogelsong allowing the lone run over 7.1 frames before three relievers held the fort. Hector Sanchex knocked in the winner with a sac fly with Brando Belt singling in another in the 10th while Brandon Hicks went deep in the 7th. Left hander Madison Bumgarner gets the call in game two of their series versus the Dodgers. Bumgarner looks to build on a 4-1 victory at Atlanta where he gave up an unearned run over six frames.

The Dodgers are penciled in as the one team with the ability to make life tough for the Giants and even though much of the attention is on their rivals the team in blue is right on their heels in the NL West. Josh Beckett turned back the clock with a fantastic effort that saw him give up a solo homer over 6.2 frames but JP Howell took the loss with a 10th inning run allowed with Jamey Wright giving up a run scoring single while the LAD bats went quietly in the bottom of the inning. The dangerous lineup struggled to get anything going with five hits and two BB producing a 5th inning run on Drew Butera's sacrifice and nothing more. Lefty Paul Maholm opposes first place San Francisco in a Friday night NL West battle. Maholm has recorded back to back quality starts in which he allowed five runs on 15 hits over 13 innings.
This could be another tight affair with Bumgarner generally doing well in this match up while Malholm has thrown the ball well at times. I'm siding with the Giants who seem to have an edge when they see Blue...
