The New York Yankees travel to Miller Park to begin a weekend series with the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Yankees had been enjoying the view from atop the American League East standings before a 1-5 cold streak dropped them to second behind Baltimore. The Yanks are trying to get hot again and consecutive road wins over the Angels was a good way to start with Wednesday's 9-2 decision seeing strong performances from every area. A five run first made life easier for starter Vidal Nuno who didn't need much help with just one run allowed on four hits over 6.1 innings. A 12 hit attack featured Derek Jeter's first bomb while Mark Texiera and JR Murphy knocked in a pair of runs. The Yankees send Masahiro Tanaka to the bump to face Milwaukee for the first time. Masahiro has been a quality acquisition for New York with a 4-0 start and 2.53 ERA in six outings.

I don't think many people expected to see Milwaukee sitting in first this time of the year in a very top heavy division but they are riding a very hot start and are hopeful a slowdown over the past week or so doesn't last. The Brew Crew have dropped six of eight after falling to visiting Arizona 3-2 on Wednesday night. Wily Peralta squirmeed out of a few jams but not quite enough with a pair of runs allowed on eleven hits over six innings. The offense stalled on seven hits with a single run scored in the first and 9th but did nothing in between as they let an early lead go by the wayside in back to back days. The Brewers will lean on ace Yovani Gallardo to contain the Yankees bats in the opener on Friday. Gallardo has earned the top spot in the rotation with a 2-1 record and 2.47 ERA with six quality starts.
The Yankees might be getting back on track but facing Gallardo is never an easy task while Tanaka has been lights out as well. Tough to find an edge here and this could be a game to watch more then anything but I'll give a slight edge to the Yanks...
