The Cincinnati Reds and the Colorado Rockies face off on Saturday at Great American ballpark for game two of their series.
The Cincinnati Reds didn’t get a ton of offense on Frida but they made enough of it to make it work as they knocked off the Rockies in game one of their series. Joey Votto hit two home runs, Todd Frazier hit a home run, and Billy Hamilton had a hit and scored as the Reds scored four runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Johnny Cueto allowed five hits and two runs while striking out eight over 8.0 innings but didn’t factor in the decision as Jonathan Broxton blew the save but got the win. For Saturday’s game the Reds start Alfredo Simon who has been a positive surprise this season. For the season Simon has allowed 27 hits and nine earned runs while striking out 22 over 40.2 innings for a 4-1 record and a 1.99 ERA.
USA TODAY Sports
The Colorado Rockies battled back until the very end but it wasn’t enough to get past the Reds as they lost in Cincinnati on Friday. Troy Tulowitzki hit a home run, Justin Morneau had two hits, and Charlie Blackmon had a hit as the Rockies scored three runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Jhoulys Chacin allowed four hits and two runs while striking out two over 6.0 innings to not factor in the decision as Boone Logan took the loss to fall to 1-1 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Rockies start Jordan Lyles who has yet to lose this season. For the year Lyles has allowed 37 hits and 13 earned runs while striking out 24 over 44.2 innings for a 4-0 record and a 2.62 ERA.
Cincinnati is 5-1 against the National League West, 6-2 as a home favorite, and 4-0 in Simon’s last four starts. Colorado is 7-1 in game two of a series, 9-4 in their last 13 games, and 5-2 in Lyles’ last seven starts. Colorado is 4-2 in the last six meetings.
This is a game I won’t be touching as it just looks too close but I will call it a slight lean to the Rockies to end their two game losing streak.
