The Baltimore Orioles and the Houston Astros face off on Sunday at Camden Yards as they close out their weekend series.
The Baltimore Orioles battled back twice on Saturday to walk away with the win in extra innings. Adam Jones hit a home run, Nelson Cruz had two hits including a home run, and J.J. hardy and Nick Markakis each had two hits as the Orioles scored five runs on 13 hits. Starting pitcher Miguel Gonzalez allowed six hits and two runs while striking out six over 7.0 innings to not factor in the decision as Tommy Hunter blew the save and Ryan Webb got the win to go to 2-0 for the season. For Monday’s game the Orioles start Chris Tillman who has no decisions in his last two starts. For the season Tillman has allowed 42 hits and 18 earned runs while striking out 37 over 42.2 innings for a 3-1 record and a 3.80 ERA.

The Houston Astros fought gamely on Saturday but couldn’t hold two different leads as they fell to the Orioles. George Springer had two hits including a home run and Jose Altuve and Matt Domnguez each had two hits as the Orioles scored four runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Collin McHugh allowed seven hits and two runs while striking out four over 6.1 innings to not factor in the decision as Anthony Bass blew the save and Paul Clemens took the loss. For Saturday’s game the Astros start Jarred Cosart who took a loss in his last start. For the season Cosart has allowed 29 hits and 19 earned runs while striking out 28 over 38 innings for a 1-3 record and a 4.50 ERA.
Baltimore is 5-0 in their last five games, 12-4 against the AL West, and 12-5 in Tillman’s last 17 starts as a favorite. Houston is 29-67 against a right-handed starter, 14-40 against the AL East, and 2-5 in Cosart’s last seven road starts. Houston is 2-12 in the last 14 meetings of these two.
The Astros loss on Saturday was just tough but on Sunday I look for them to not to even be close as the Orioles win easy.
