The San Diego Padres can win their series with the Miami Marlins with a win Sunday at Petco Park.
The Marlins were the hottest team in the National League East but are in danger of losing three in a row at San Diego after a 9-3 rout at the hands of the Padres Saturday night. I am a bit surprised by the final score but not so much with the loss as the Fish have won just three times on the road. Nathan Eovaldi threw well enough to win Saturday with two runs scored in five frames but three relievers followed with seven runs plated to break open a close contest. The Marlins posted nine hits and received a two run bomb from Casey McGehee but little else. Henderson Alverez takes the ball looking to salvage a series split at San Diego. Alvarez has been rock steady for the Marlins with a 2-2 record and 2.62 ERA in seven outings.

I have mentioned the Padres struggles at the plate more then once with four runs being a fantastic effort but theiroffense has shocked me the past two nights with 19 runs. SD was solid on the mound as well with starter Eric Stults holding Miami to a pair of runs on six hits over six frames to move to 2-3 on the season. Seth Smith and Chase Headly stole the show with each leaving the yard and combining for seven RBI's. Overall the bats posted 13 hits and eight free passes. Whenever San Diego scores runs the question becomes whether it continues and the answer remains the same; wait and see. Robbie Erlin toes the rubber in the series finale' against visiting Miami on Sunday.Erlin has often been a victim of poor run support and is 1-4 with a 4.95 ERA.
I don't think I'm interested in betting this game although Alvarez looks too have a clear advantage. I'll back the home team who have already beaten Jose Fernandez...
