The Cleveland Indians and Tampa Bay Rays play a rubber matchup on Sunday at Tropicana Field.
The Indians have won four of their last five games and have scored four or more runs in four of those victories. However, the Indians produced just three hits and one run in Saturday’s loss to the Rays. Michael Brantley has homered twice in his last three games and has seven RBI in his last five games. Nick Swisher continues to struggle with just four hits in his last eight games. Starting Sunday will be Josh Tomlin who is 1-0 with a 1.35 ERA and has four strikeouts in 6.2 innings. Tomlin is 1-2 with a 4.38 ERA in four career starts against the Rays.

The Rays snapped a four-game losing streak with a win on Saturday, but have still lost five of their last seven games. While the Rays pitching has been a major disappointment, the lineup has produced no more than three runs in five of their last seven games. Evan Longoria has six RBI in his last eight games and James Loney has three RBI in this series. Besides those two guys, much of the Rays lineup has struggled with consistency. Getting the nod is Chris Archer who is 2-1 with a 4.91 ERA and has 34 strikeouts in 40.1 innings. This will be Archer’s second career start against the Indians.
The Indians are 1-4 in Tomlin's last 5 road starts and 1-4 in Tomlin's last 5 starts as a road underdog. The Rays are 7-1 in Archer's last 8 home starts and 11-5 in Archer's last 16 starts with 4 days of rest. The Indians are 6-14 in the last 20 meetings in Tampa Bay.
There's value in taking the Indians in this spot. They're the hotter team of the two and have a solid pitcher in Tomlin on the mound. The Rays have been up and down the past couple of weeks and have been hard to trust. I'll take my chances with Cleveland from a value standpoint.
