The Pittsburgh Pirates have been heating up but it remains to be seen if that carries over on the road. The Pirates are 4-10 on the road, 6-4 in their last 10 games, and they are 7.5 games behind the Brewers in the standings. As a team the Pirates are hitting .247 with Andrew McCutchen hitting .321, Ike Davis hitting .286, and Gaby Sanchez hitting .286. As a team the Pirates pitching staff has an ERA of 3.85 with the starters at 4.47 and the bullpen at 2.74. For game one at Milwaukee the Pirates start Gerrit Cole who won his last time out. For the season Cole has allowed 46 hits with 19 earned runs while striking out 39 over 47 innings for a 3-2 record and a 3.64 ERA.
Milwaukee is 1-4 against the NL Central, 10-4 in game one of a series, and 2-5 Estrada’s last seven home starts. Pittsburgh is 4-1 in their last five games, 6-14 against the NL Central, and 10-4 in Cole’s last 14 starts. Pittsburgh is 11-49 in their last 60 games in Pittsburgh.
Cole has more talent on the mound here but the Brewers have had the Pirates number for quite some time so Pittsburgh needs to show me something on the road and against the Brewers which I don’t see them doing here.
