The Milwaukee Brewers and the Pittsburgh Pirates face off on Tuesday at Miller Park in game one of their series.

The Milwaukee Brewers continue to be one of the bigger surprises of this MLB season as they lead the National League Central division. The Brewers are 12-9 at home, 406 in their last 10 games, and they have won their last two games. As a team the Brewers are hitting are hitting .250 with Jonathan Lucroy hitting .304, Carlos Gomez hitting .292, and Scooter Gennett hitting .282. The Brewers pitching staff has an ERA of 3.21 with the starters at 3.26 and the bullpen at 3.10. For game one against the Bucs the Brewers start Marco Estrada who has no decisions in three of his last four starts. For the season Estrada has allowed 34 hits and 17 earned runs while striking out 38 over 43.1 innings for a 2-1 record and a 3.53 ERA.

Milwaukee Brewers vs. Pittsburgh Pirates MLB Pick, Odds, Prediction 5/13/14

The Pittsburgh Pirates have been heating up but it remains to be seen if that carries over on the road. The Pirates are 4-10 on the road, 6-4 in their last 10 games, and they are 7.5 games behind the Brewers in the standings. As a team the Pirates are hitting .247 with Andrew McCutchen hitting .321, Ike Davis hitting .286, and Gaby Sanchez hitting .286. As a team the Pirates pitching staff has an ERA of 3.85 with the starters at 4.47 and the bullpen at 2.74. For game one at Milwaukee the Pirates start Gerrit Cole who won his last time out. For the season Cole has allowed 46 hits with 19 earned runs while striking out 39 over 47 innings for a 3-2 record and a 3.64 ERA.

Milwaukee is 1-4 against the NL Central, 10-4 in game one of a series, and 2-5 Estrada’s last seven home starts. Pittsburgh is 4-1 in their last five games, 6-14 against the NL Central, and 10-4 in Cole’s last 14 starts. Pittsburgh is 11-49 in their last 60 games in Pittsburgh.

Cole has more talent on the mound here but the Brewers have had the Pirates number for quite some time so Pittsburgh needs to show me something on the road and against the Brewers which I don’t see them doing here.
