The New York Mets and New York Yankees will now begin a two-game series on ESPN at Citi Field, after the Mets won the first two games at Yankee Stadium.
The Yankees have now lost four straight games as their pitching staff has done nothing to help them out, allowing a combined 32 runs in those four losses. The Yankees have struggled in the pitching department for much of the season and are 3-18 this season when allowing more than three runs. Offensively, Yangervis Solarte has nine RBI in his last eight games and Brett Gardner has a seven-game hitting streak. Masahiro Tanaka will get the start Wednesday, and he’s 5-0 with a 2.57 ERA and has 58 strikeouts in 49 innings. This will be Tanaka’s first time facing the Mets in his career.

The Mets have gotten back to a .500 record with three straight wins and now look to keep the momentum going at home. During this little winning streak the Mets bats have been on fire, producing a combined 26 runs in their last three games. In Tuesday’s win over the Yankees, the Mets scored 12 runs on 10 hits. Curtis Granderson has homered in back-to-back games and David Wright has an 11-game hitting streak. Rafael Montero will make his major league debut. In four years in the minors, Montero was 32-17 with a 2.63 ERA and had 367 strikeouts in 390 innings.
The Yankees are 4-0 in Tanaka's last 4 starts as a favorite and 36-16 in their last 52 interleague games as a favorite. The Mets are 12-2 in their last 14 vs. American League East and 1-5 in their last 6 games vs. a right-handed starter. The Yankees are 0-5 in the last 5 meetings.
Maybe I'm nuts, but there's a ton of value with the Mets in this spot. The Mets are absolutely crushing the ball lately, and Montero is an incredible young pitcher with a bright future. The Yankees bats have been cold lately and it will take time to adjust to the live arm of the rookie.
I'll take my chances with the Mets at this price.
