The New York Yankees conclude their series with the New York Mets at Citi Field Thursday.
The Yankees might be second in the American League East but that doesn't mean they have been playing well because that hasn't been the case. The Yanks ended a four game slide following a 4-0 victory over the Mets on Wednesday behind another strong effort on the mound by Masahiro Tanaka who tossed a four hit complete game to improve to 5-0. The offense produced eight hits and a pair of walks with Mark Texiera and Yangervis Solarte going deep. Chase Whitley makes his major league debut when he faces the rival Mets on Thursday. Whitley was 3-2 with a 2.39 ERA over six starts in Triple A.

The Mets already have their backs against the wall with several injuries to their pitching staff so every defeat is makes it tougher to compete in the National League East. The Mets have been hanging tough but saw a three game winning streak end following Wednesday's loss to the Yanks. The work on the mound was competitive with Rafeal Montero allowing three runs on five hits including a pair of long balls over six innings. That was a losing effort with the offense silent on only four hits which meant they didn't threaten with two players reaching second base. The Mets counter with rookie Jacob deGrom on the mound to face the dangerous attack of the Yankees. He tossed 7.1 frames in Spring Training, going 1-0 with a 1.23 ERA in four appearances.
I don't know what to expect from the match up on the hill and I don't think the respective teams do either so I'm going with the better odds...
