The Toronto Blue jays and the Cleveland Indians face off on Thursday in Toronto as they close out their series.
The Toronto Blue Jays beat the Indians on Tuesday but on Wednesday they didn’t have anything going as they were blown out. Adam Lind had two hits and Jose Reyes, Melky Cabrera, and Jose Bautista each had hits as the Blue Jays scored four runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Dustin McGowan allowed nine hits and four runs while striking out three over 4.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 2-2 for the season. For Thursday’s game the Blue jays start J.A. Happ who has worked as a starter and out of the bullpen this season. For the year Happ has allowed 13 hits and six runs while striking out 10 over 11.2 innings for a 1-1 record and a 4.63 ERA.
USA TODAY Sports
The Cleveland Indians haven’t looked like the playoff team they were last season but they took out a ton of frustration pounding the Blue Jays on Wednesday. Yan Gomes had two hits including a home run, Carlos Santana hit a home run, and David Murphy and Lonnie CHisenhall had five hits each as the Indians scored 15 runs on 22 hits. Starting pitcher Corey Kluber allowed four hits and two runs while striking out nine over 7.0 innings to get the win and go to 4-3 for the season. For Thursday’s game the Indians start Danny Salazar who appears to be returning to form. For the season Salazar has allowed 44 hits and 23 earned runs while striking out 44 over 36.2 innings for a 1-3 record and a 5.65 ERA.
Toronto is 6-2 as a favorite, 7-4 in their last 11 games, and 1-8 in Happ’s last nine home starts. Cleveland is 6-2 in their last eight games, 3-7 as an underdog, and 0-4 in Salazar’s last four road starts.
The total looks to be set to the high side and while it is a lean given at what both of these teams can do at the pate the under is my free pick.
My stronger play is on the winning side and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
