The Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox will begin a three-game series on Friday night.
The Tigers had Thursday off and just swept the Baltimore Orioles to improve to 24-12 on the season and arguably the best team in all of baseball. While the Tigers pitching has been solid, allowing three or less runs in five of their last eight games, it’s the batting lineup that has been crazy consistent. The Tigers are 20-2 this season when scoring more than three runs. Miguel Cabrera has hit four homers in his last nine games and Victor Martinez has five homers in his last 10. Max Scherzer gets the nod, and he’s 5-1 with a 2.04 ERA and has 66 strikeouts in 53 innings. Scherzer is 2-4 with a 7.02 ERA in eight career starts against the Red Sox.

The Red Sox just lost two of three to the Minnesota Twins, dropping them to .500 on the season, but they’ve still won five of their last eight games overall. Much like the Tigers, the Red Sox have been a scoring machine lately, racking up four or more runs in six of their last eight games. The Red Sox are 19-8 when scoring more than three runs this season. David Ortiz has six homeruns in his last 10 games and Dustin Pedroia has 13 hits in his last 10 games. Jon Lester takes the mound, and he’s 4-4 with a 2.75 ERA and has 66 strikeouts in 55.2 innings. Lester is 2-2 with a 4.63 ERA in seven career starts against the Tigers.
The Tigers are 42-15 in Scherzer's last 57 starts and 1-4 in Scherzer's last 5 road starts. The Red Sox are 14-5 in Lester's last 19 starts as a home favorite and 14-5 in Lester's last 19 home starts. The Red Sox are 4-1 in Lester's last 5 starts vs. Tigers, while the Tigers are 1-4 in Scherzer's last 5 starts vs. Red Sox.
This should be a hell of a game with two red hot teams and two great pitchers on the mound. I'll go ahead and take my chances with the Red Sox given the fact they're at home and the Tigers are just 15-37 in the last 52 meetings in Boston.
