The Milwaukee Brewers look to stay hot when they travel to Wrigley Field to face the Chicago Cubs Friday.
Milwaukee has been off to a torid start and their reward is first in the National League Central. The Brewers appeared to be coming back to earth with defeats in five of six but have rebounded to win four of five after Thursday's 4-3 win over Pittsburgh. Yovani Gallardo allowed all three runs on five hits including a pair of homers over 6.1 innings with three relievers keeping the Pirates off the board. The bats produced seven hits and walked three times with Rickie Weeks and Martin Maldonaldo going deep while Khris Davis cracked a walkoff two run single in the 9th. Milwaukee turns left hander Kyle Lohse on the mound to open a weekend series at Wrigley Field. Lohse is one of the reasons the Brewers are in first with a 4-1 record and 2.75 ERA in eight starts.

The Cubs gave St Louis all they could handle during their series but in the end they dropped two of three after Tursday's 5-3 loss. Overall Chicago has lost nine of eleven with runs being difficult to come by. Neither the arms or bats came through Thursday with starter Jason Hammel charged with all five runs on five hits and a pair of free passes over 5.1 frames. That was too much for a struggling offense to overcome on eight hits. Starlin Castro slammed a two run homer and Junior Lake singled in another but that was all she wrote with a few chances going by the wayside. The Cubs give the ball to ace Jeff Samardzija who has fashioned some of the best numbers in the game. Samardzija is still seaching for his first win despite a 1.45 ERA where the team is only 1-7 in his outings.
Loshe has been outstanding but Samardzija has been even better but suffers from a lack of support. Lohse has struggled versus the Cubs but I'm going with the first place club although it's on the risky side...
