Progressive Field and the Cleveland Indians host the Oakland Athletics to kick off a weekend series.
Oakland was hitting the ball and pitching as well as they have all year in winning six in a row. The good times came to an end with a 4-2 loss to the visiting White Sox on Wednesday with the arms and bats stalling. Starter Tommy Milone was outstanding with a solo homer given up insix frames but Fernando Abad and Luke Gregerson combined to allow three 8th inning runs to blow a 2-1 lead. The offense mustered only three hits and walked three times with John Jasco and Josh Donaldson smacking solo homers. Oakland turns to Sonny Gray who faces the Indians in the series opener on Friday. Gray did not get a decision in a 2-0 loss early in the year with a five hit shutout over six innings of work.

Cleveland was slow out of the gate and has trying to work their way back in to things. The Indians took a step back Thursday with a 4-2 loss versus the Blue Jays at the Rogers Centre with neither the work on the mound or at the plate being enough to get the job done. Starter Danny Salazar allowed a pair of runs on two solo homers over fouir frames followed by CC Lee who was charged with another two runs without recording an out. The Tribe did have some baserunners on nine hits and a trio of bases on balls but mustered just a solo homer by David Murphy and an RBI single from Yan Gomes. Cleveland sends Zach McAllister to the bump to control the dangerous offense of the Athletics on Friday. McAllister looks to bounce back from a 7-1 defeat at Tampa Bay where he gave up five runs on eight hits in 4.1 innings.
Even though the Athletics seem to have the advantage here the Indians have beaten Gray. However the price is right to back a very good Oakland squad...
