The Philadelphia Phillies and the Cincinnati Reds face off on Friday in Philadelphia as the start their weekend series.
The Philadelphia Phillies are struggling once again as they just appear to be aging and are stuck in a tough division. The Phillies are 6-11 at home this season, 3-7 in their last 10 games, and they have lost three in a row. As a team the Phillies are hitting .246 with Chase Utley hitting .343, Marlon Byrd hitting .295, and Carlos Ruiz hitting .275. As a team the Phillies pitching staff has an ERA of 4.18 with the starters at 3.95 and the bullpen at 4.68. For game one against the Reds the Phillies start Kyle Kendrick who is still looking for his first win of the season. For the year Kendrick has allowed 47 hits and 22 earned runs while striking out 27 over 43 innings for a 0-3 record and a 3.98 ERA.

The Cincinnati Reds got off to a slow start this season but they seem to be getting healthy and are getting back on track. The Reds are 7-11 on the road this season, 5-5 in their last 10 games, and are coming off of playing a double header on Thursday against the Padres. As a team the Reds are hitting .244 with Brandon Phillips hitting .285, Todd Frazier hitting .265, and Joey Votto hitting .262. As a team the Reds pitching staff has an ERA of 3.43 with the starters at 2.98 and the bullpen at 4.75. For game one in Philadelphia the Reds start Alfredo Simon who is coming off of his second loss of the year. For the season Simon has allowed 35 hits and 14 earned runs while striking out 22 over 43.2 innings for a 4-2 record and a 2.89 ERA.
Philadelphia is 2-7 in their last nine games, 1-5 in game one of a series, and 1-5 Kendrick’s last six starts against the NL Central. Cincinnati is 4-10 in game one of a series, 0-5 in their last five road games, and 4-1 in Simon’s last five starts. Cincinnati is 6-20 in their last 26 games in Philadelphia.
With the total set at 8 the books look dialed in but for me it is a lean to the under.
